Resume review

Distributor-to-manufacturer medical sales resume review

Decide whether a written review can clarify your channel experience, account ownership and commercial results for a manufacturer application.

A move from a distributor to a manufacturer can leave a reader uncertain about your experience even when the numbers are accurate. Who employed you? Which product lines did you represent? Did you own the customer relationship, manage a channel partner or support another seller's accounts?

The existing written resume review can help make those distinctions visible. It does not verify sales records, provide a manufacturer referral or turn channel experience into direct employment. Purchases remain closed; inspect the fictional sample review before deciding whether the format fits your needs.

Is the problem missing evidence or unclear writing?

What you haveUseful next step
A real result, but unclear employer and product-line contextUse the evidence worksheet below; then consider a review of the wording
Only a total for the whole distributorEstablish your own scope before attributing that total to yourself
Customer-facing work without ownership of price or contract termsName the work and the authority you actually had
No permission to share the underlying reportUse a permitted summary; do not upload restricted employer records

The Bureau of Labor Statistics overview describes wholesale and manufacturing sales as a broad occupation. It is useful context, not evidence that every medical-device employer uses the same channel structure or hiring criteria. Read the actual vacancy for the responsibilities that matter.

An original edit: separate employer, scope and result

Fictional draft: “Manufacturer representative; managed $4 million in surgical sales.”

Suppose the candidate actually worked for an independent distributor, supported two product lines and personally managed a defined group of accounts with $900,000 in annual invoiced sales. The $4 million was the branch total.

A more defensible description is: “Account representative at an independent distributor, covering two surgical product lines. Managed a defined account group with $900,000 in annual invoiced sales; coordinated product demonstrations and follow-up with the manufacturer team.”

Use that version only if those facts match the records. It still needs dates and meaningful detail about the candidate's contribution. Do not replace a real employer name with the manufacturer's name or imply that a supported demonstration was an independently led clinical activity.

What to bring to a review

Prepare a target job description, the current resume and a short explanation of the commercial arrangement. For each disputed bullet, note the reporting period, product scope, customer group and metric definition. Distinguish invoiced sales, bookings and end-customer usage; they are not interchangeable labels.

The free distributor evidence worksheet helps assemble that context. If you can resolve the ambiguity yourself, use it and stop there. If the document still obscures your contribution, compare the existing review scope and availability with the sample. A wording review cannot establish a missing result or supply permission to disclose confidential information.
