Show distributor sales experience without double-counting revenue

Use an original channel-sales worksheet to separate employer, customer, reporting basis and personal contribution on a medical sales resume.

Before writing a distributor-sales bullet, draw the commercial chain in words: who employed you, who supplied the product, who purchased it and which part you handled. Then attach a number to one defined transaction basis. This prevents a strong account story from becoming an inflated revenue claim.

A fictional reconciliation

A manufacturer ships $600,000 of products to a distributor. During the same period, the distributor invoices hospitals $750,000 for products from that line. An account representative's assigned accounts account for $240,000 of those hospital invoices.

These are three views of the activity. Adding $600,000 and $750,000 does not establish that the representative generated $1.35 million. The transactions occur at different points in the chain, may include different inventory periods and use different prices.

The representative could start with the $240,000 account figure if its definition and attribution are supported. They should not call that figure gross profit, personal commission or manufacturer revenue.

FieldWhat the fictional candidate records
EmployerIndependent distributor, named accurately
ScopeAssigned hospital accounts for one product line
Metric$240,000 in invoiced sales for the stated period
Personal actionScheduled demonstrations and coordinated account follow-up
LimitNo claim to branch totals or manufacturer contract approval

Turn the record into a sentence

Working draft: “Managed assigned hospital accounts with $240,000 in invoiced sales during the year; coordinated demonstrations and follow-up for one manufacturer product line.”

That is clearer than “Generated millions in device revenue,” but it is still a starting point. If the accounts were inherited, do not imply you originated all the revenue. If you supported rather than managed them, change the verb. If you have evidence of a specific renewal or expansion, explain that event separately rather than letting the total stand in for causation.

The BLS occupation overview discusses customer contact, product explanation and sales work across wholesale and manufacturing settings. Your resume must still establish which activities you performed; a broad occupational description does not establish your own responsibilities.

Three checks before using a number

First, state whether the number covers orders, invoices or another measure. Second, match the numerator and denominator before calculating growth or attainment. Third, check whether returns, cancellations or changes in account assignment affect the comparison.

For example, comparing this year's ten accounts with last year's six is not a like-for-like growth calculation. You can report each scope honestly, or calculate growth for the unchanged group if you have the records. Do not quietly blend the two.

Keep your working notes private and avoid restricted reports, customer names or confidential pricing. For arithmetic help, use the sales-achievement guide. For help deciding whether written feedback fits a manufacturer application, see the distributor-to-manufacturer review path and its actual sample. This exercise is fictional; its figures belong in practice, never in your employment history.
