Move from B2B sales to medical device sales with a clear evidence bridge

Identify transferable commercial work, preserve its context and make your product-learning gaps explicit.

Your commercial experience can provide relevant evidence, but the transition is not a vocabulary swap. Keep the actual customer, product and responsibilities clear. Then explain which behaviors may transfer and which parts of the device role you still need to learn.

Identify the commercial substance

Prospecting, clarifying needs, coordinating stakeholders, handling objections and maintaining useful next-step records can be relevant. Choose actual examples rather than listing the skills as traits.

For each example, record the situation, your decision, action, result and limitation. If a result was shared, identify the team's contribution. If a metric combines existing and new business, be prepared to explain it.

A fictional bridge

Maya sold commercial services to multi-site customers. Her original transition line says, “I already do the same job in another industry.” That overstates the match.

She revises it: “I bring experience researching accounts and coordinating operational and purchasing questions. I need to learn the product context and the support responsibilities of this role. I would like to understand how your training prepares career changers for that work.”

The revised answer keeps the strength and identifies the gap. It gives the interviewer a useful question instead of asking them to accept equivalence.

Choose the target role deliberately

Read the current posting for required experience, actual responsibilities and operating conditions. An associate and an experienced territory role may require different preparation. Employer role descriptions can help you form questions, but do not replace the specific vacancy's requirements.

Prepare a role brief before changing the resume. If the role emphasizes learning and support, select examples that show dependable execution. If it emphasizes account development, make commercial ownership and results especially clear.

Build a transition file

Your first file can contain a role brief, three evidence stories, a tailored resume and a product source card. The source card separates official information from your assumptions. Avoid unsupported medical claims or invented customer details.

If you are comparing device sales with software sales, the owner's Tech Sales Playbook offers a separate preparation context. Compare the actual roles rather than assuming either field has one standard work pattern.

The B2B transition preparation page shows how the career guide's worksheets connect these tasks into a sequence.
