Practical preparation
Plan a clinical-to-sales move without overstating your experience
Identify transferable evidence, commercial learning needs and a realistic target role.
Clinical experience and sales experience can overlap in communication and problem solving, but they are not interchangeable. The Career Field Guide helps you map your actual responsibilities to a target role and identify gaps before writing the application.
Separate three kinds of evidence
First, record communication work: explaining information, adapting to an audience or coordinating across teams. Second, record process work: scheduling, training support or improving a documented workflow. Third, identify any actual commercial responsibility. Leave the third category empty if you have not held one.
A hiring manager can assess clear evidence. They cannot fairly assess a resume that relabels every clinical interaction as selling.
A fictional before and after
Before: “Drove revenue by influencing treatment decisions.”
After, where the facts support it: “Coordinated a revised onboarding checklist across the unit and collected feedback from new colleagues during its first month.”
The revision avoids an unsupported revenue claim and describes a contribution that can be discussed. Add a measured result only if one exists, and keep patient information out of application materials.
Compare role responsibilities
A clinical specialist role and a sales representative role may emphasize different work. Titles and requirements vary by employer and product area. Read the actual description, then list the responsibilities you have evidence for and the ones you would need to learn.
Prepare questions about commercial accountability, training, travel, scheduling and the way success is evaluated. Do not assume a clinical background automatically qualifies you for every device-related role.
What the guide adds
The book includes role-selection exercises, three fictional candidate cases, evidence translation, resume structure, outreach practice and a preparation sequence. Editable sheets help you organize the work. Start with the free nursing transition guide, then inspect the actual book excerpt.
This is career preparation, not clinical training or access certification. A personalized clinical-transition resume review is a separate offer with its own scope and availability.
