Write a capital-equipment sales achievement across reporting periods
Build a dated deal timeline that separates pipeline, orders and delivery, with a fictional example and a practical resume worksheet.
Anchor the achievement to a reporting date and a defined milestone. An equipment opportunity can progress substantially before it becomes an order, and an order can precede delivery. Your resume should preserve those distinctions.
A fictional timeline
The following is an original teaching case, not a model of every employer's accounting or commission rules.
| Date | Recorded event | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| February | Customer requests an evaluation | An active opportunity, not a sale |
| April | Candidate coordinates the evaluation and follow-up | A specific contribution |
| June | Revised proposal issued for $800,000 | Proposal value at that date |
| September | Customer signs an order for $720,000 | Order value, subject to the stated terms |
| November | Equipment delivered | Delivery milestone, not automatic proof of revenue recognition |
If you are describing the position as of June, “closed $800,000” is unsupported. If your records show you owned the commercial close in September, you can describe the $720,000 order with the appropriate period and contribution. Do not add the proposal and order values together.
A five-line worksheet
Write the starting stage and date. Name the action you personally performed. Identify the resulting milestone. Record the stage and value at the reporting cutoff. Finally, name the handoff or remaining dependency.
For this case: “Beginning with a requested evaluation, coordinated demonstrations and documented follow-up questions; supported the revised June proposal and handed the open opportunity to the territory lead.” This is useful even without claiming ownership of the September close.
If you also owned the negotiation and signed-order milestone, add those facts separately. Do not use the same verb for scheduling a demonstration, supporting a proposal and closing an order.
Compare like with like
Suppose your employer's defined annual order target is $1 million and your credited signed orders total $1.1 million. Under those supplied definitions, attainment is 110%. Adding $300,000 of open proposals would not make that 140% order attainment. The arithmetic is simple; choosing compatible inputs is the work.
The BLS description of wholesale and manufacturing sales covers a range of commercial activities. Your evidence should show which of them you performed rather than borrowing the whole occupational description.
Before using the timeline externally, remove confidential customer details and confirm that any reported figures may be shared. The worksheet is not a request to publish employer records. For help choosing between self-editing and written feedback, inspect the capital-equipment review path and its actual sample. For the underlying calculations, use the sales-achievement guide.
